Introduction
| RootsWeb historical-genealogy email
lists allow you to send and receive email messages to and from other
researchers who are interested in sharing genealogical
information of potential interest to some targeted group. Every
message sent to the list is distributed to all subscribers on the
list. Replies to individual messages on the list are also
sent to the list and distributed just like the initial post.
Thus, information is quickly distributed throughout an online
community of people with common genealogical interests. |
Subscribe to the HASTON Email List
The HASTON-L@rootsweb.com mailing list is
specifically purposed to facilitate the exchange of information related
to any person from any branch of the entire, broader Haston (Hasting,
Hastings, or Hastain) family, or any other information related to this
extensive set of families or related families.
Subscribing to the HASTON email list is
free and easy. You simply send an email to the appropriate email
address (an address with "request@rootsweb.com" at the end of
it; see below for the two options) with the word "Subscribe" (without the quote marks) in
the body of the email message.
There are two options for
subscribing to the HASTON email list:
- Mail Mode: You can
receive every individual email that is posted. To
subscribe to the "mail mode" of the HASTON mailing list, send your
subscription request email to:
HASTON-L-request@rootsweb.com
In the body of the message
type the word: Subscribe
Note: If you have an
email "signature" set up in your email software, please turn it off
for this subscription request email message.
- Digest Mode:
Once every 48 hours, if messages have been posted within that time, you
will receive a digested version of all of the
emails posted during that period. These digested emails
will be sent to you within a single email message. To subscribe
to the "digest mode" of the HASTON mailing list, send your
subscription request email to:
HASTON-D-request@rootsweb.com
In the body of the message
type the word: Subscribe
Note: If you have an
email "signature" set up in your email software, please turn it off
for this subscription request email message.
Posting Messages to the HASTON Email
List Group
If you would like to post a message
to provide information to or seek information from the HASTON email list
group, you simply address an email to:
HASTON-L@rootsweb.com
Put a clearly descriptive title for your
message in the subject line area. This will give the recipients of
your message an opportunity to decide whether or not your subject is of
interest to them.
When you send your message, it will be
sent to all members of the HASTON email list group. Recipients
will be able to respond to your message, if they have appropriate
information to share with you.

There are two ways in which you can
read previous messages posted to the HASTON email list.

Submit a Search Query: Go to the
following page and enter "HASTON" (without quotation marks) in the
"Name of the List" box and then click on "Submit Query."

Unsubscribing from the HASTON Email
List
If, at any time, you should choose to
"unsubscribe" from the HASTON email list, you can simply follow the same
instructions as with the subscribing process (see above). However,
this time put the word "Unsubscribe" in the body of your email message.
